An Aimsir

After I have finished with éadaí, I always move onto 'An Aimsir'. It is another excellent opportunity to revise their clothes and introduce some new phrases. I think it is very important to include opportunities to revise themes they have already covered.

These are some of the activities that I did last year:

1) Partner Work - I introduce four types of weather in the PowerPoint, and then I get them to take out the small partner cards and their bears from the éadaí bundle. They work with their partners and dress their bear to match the weather. The next day we then move onto the next four types of weather from the PowerPoint and again we do partner work with the bears and the clothes.

2) Roll agus Abair - This is an excellent game as a whole class or in stations. Like éadaí, I have a text version included. These are great for revising vocabulary, and the children enjoy playing it. They roll the dice, and they have to say what the weather is when they land on a number. Once they get it right, they use a counter or cross it off on a wipeable sheet. Older classes can write the weather under the non-text version as a challenge.

3) Playdough mats - I have included two playdough mats for another activity where the children can make the weather using playdough. The dad bear is a weatherman, and he is describing the weather around Ireland in Irish. The other playdough mat included in the éadaí bundle is another great one to use to decide what weather they want it to be and then dress the bears accordingly using their playdough.

4) Small weather cards - The smaller weather cards can be used for lots of activities. As I have mentioned, I use them for games of splat and memory for stations. See below:

I also play games with them on the whiteboard as you can see from the below video:

You could also use the bear cut outs from the éadaí bundle and display each bear on the whiteboard with the cards. The children have to match up the correct weather cards to what they are wearing. For example, if you put mummy bear on the whiteboard with her winter clothes, you select different children to come up to the board and choose the weather cards that would match that outfit. They have to say their card in Irish.

5 ) Summary sheet - This sheet is a handy sheet where you could get them to work on sentences, more for 1st class, but the younger classes could use it to point out the different weather, or you could ask them in Irish to put their finger on a particular type of weather.

6) Éist agus Tarraing - The teacher calls out different weather to draw in each of the boxes. You can also get them to draw on certain clothes also.

7) Cluichí Teanga - Again like the éadai bundle, I have included some fun games such as Interactive popcorn, Splat, Cluiche Kim and other games that work well for the weather from the cluichí teanga PowerPoint.

As you can see, there are many activities included in this bundle to revise all the new vocabulary they will be learning. I love using these activities for stations once a week.  Follow the link to the éadaí bundle https://primaryteacherinfants.com/collections/gaeilge
